Calamity befalls the University of Ilorin after a fatal auto accident at the school’s main gate involving some yet-to-be-identified students and a shuttle driver which claimed the life of a student.
It was gathered on Thursday that the victims were passengers in the campus shuttle and that the accident was a lone accident.
In a 23-second video showing the white minibus (Korope) involved in the accident was upside down, with a female passenger laying on the floor, bleeding. Additionally, a few Good Samaritans were attempting to free the entrapped students inside the car.
Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Kwara Police Command spokesperson, confirmed the incident and said that one student had died and that other students, including the drivers, were being treated at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital.
Ejire-Adeyemi said,” The bus driver was conveying students out of the school premises, just at the exit lane close to the school gate, apparently, he lost control and the vehicle somersaulted while on the motion.
“Unfortunately, one student lost her life, and other passengers sustained different injuries, but they are presently receiving treatment in the university hospital. The shuttle driver is also receiving treatment.”
