According to President Bola Tinubu’s temporary ban, Ministers, Heads Of Agencies, and Other Government Officials are not permitted to go Abroad on public funds at this time.
The ban on foreign trips will commence on April 1, 2024 and it will last for three months.
The order was delivered by President Tinubu’s chief of staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, in a letter to George Akume, the secretary to the Government of the Federation.
According to Tinubu, Government personnel must receive Presidential approval at least two weeks before leaving on any publicly sponsored abroad travel, and the trip must be deemed completely necessary.
The growing requirement for Cabinet Members and heads of MDAS to concentrate on their individual responsibilities for efficient service delivery, as well as the rising cost of travel expenses incurred by Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of Government, are issues for the President.
“In light of the present economic difficulties and the requirement for prudent financial management, I am writing to convey the directive of Mr. President to impose a temporary ban on all publicly funded overseas travel for all Federal Government officials, regardless of level, beginning on April 1, 2024, and for an initial period of three (3) months.
“Any government employee who plans to travel abroad on public funding must apply for and receive presidential approval at least two (2) weeks in advance of the trip, which must be considered absolutely necessary.
The letter states: “In light of the foregoing, it is respectfully requested that the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation disseminate this directive to all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of government.”
