In Oda town, Akure, Ondo State, Wunmi, a 17-year-old secondary school student is claimed to have fatally stabbed her 54-year-old foster mother, Mrs Funmilayo Adelayo.
The suspect and the victim, a senior public worker, shared a three-bedroom bungalow on Superjet Road, Premier Estate, which is located off Oda Road in the state.
The source claimed that although the suspect, who is currently in police custody, may have mental health issues, she had received treatment prior to the unpleasant episode.
It was learnt that the suspect, who was enrolled in SSS2, had to be pulled out of school as her mental illness became more apparent.
Later, it was reported that she was enrolled in a private school, where she pursued her education until killing the victim.
A neighbor told newsmen that she was told to take the girl to her parents due to the problem, but she declined, possibly believing that the care she was providing would be sufficient. “The issue is how one can coexist with someone who has a mental illness.”
When contacted, Funmi Odunlami, a police image maker, verified the civil servant’s murder and stated that police detectives were looking into the foster child’s motive.
