Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North, recently resigned from the opposition party, and the Senate has officially declared his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Recall that Nwoko cited the PDP’s current situation, internal conflicts, and instability as reasons for defecting to the APC.
It was reported that the lawmaker claimed that he left the PDP because former governor, Ifeanyi Okowa and Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori did not allow him the freedom to do his job.
According to Channels TV, thunderous chants erupted as he was escorted to the majority wing of the Upper Chamber.
In addition to his defection, the senator in a correspondence read by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, urged the Senate to establish an ad hoc committee to investigate the ongoing crisis within the PDP.
He stressed the necessity of having a strong opposition in order to protect Nigeria’s political environment and guarantee a fair democratic process.
