The Sokoto State Police Command has verified the arrest of its officers who were reportedly involved in the abduction of minors in the State.
According to ASP Ahmad Rufai, the command spokesman, who also verified the arrest of the officers known as ASP Kulu and Elizabeth, stated that the command has begun investigating the alleged kidnapping of five children from the State.
Remember that the FCT police command arrested ASP Kulu, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, and Elizabeth, her accomplice, for allegedly kidnapping five children in the State, including a baby girl who was less than two weeks old.
The suspects and victims were transferred and handed over to the FCT police command for further investigation, according to Rufai.
Three toddlers under the age of two and Asmau Ya’u, a five-year-old who was allegedly kidnapped on her way to an Islamiyya school in Sokoto, were among those taken captive.
The suspects were reportedly taken into custody while traveling in an 18-seater commercial bus from Sokoto to Abuja. The passengers reportedly saw that the children’s guardians were unable to breastfeed the children during the seven-hour journey, and they reported this to the police when they were close to Abuja.
According to Sirajo Madawaki, a State official of the Human Rights Network, the case was transferred from Abuja to the network office in the State, and an investigation into the case has begun.
Madawaki promised that the network would see the case through to its logical conclusion, ensure the suspects are prosecuted, and arrange for the children to be reunited with their respective parents.
Prior to her journey to Sokoto, the suspect, ASP Kulu, who was allegedly stationed with the Kubwa Division, requested leave, but it had not been approved.
