A manhunt has been initiated by the Lagos State Police Command to find 48-year-old Kadiri Yusuf, popularly known as Alado, who is suspected of violently abusing two of his children.
This incident was reported to have happened in the Orile Agege area of Lagos State.
The Daily Trust claims that Yusuf seriously injured his children, aged 11 and 13 years old.
The incident came to light when the head teacher of a primary school reported the case to the police.
The teacher, visibly angered by the suspect’s actions, alerted local authorities to the children’s plight.
The agency said Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the details of the incident, stating that around 5 pm on Friday, October 18, the head teacher discovered that one of her pupils had serious wounds all over her body shortly after 7 am that same day.
Hundeyin noted, “The teacher further claimed that upon inquiry, the little girl of about 11 years confided in her how her father, one Kadiri Yusuf alias Alado, used to beat her.”
He added, “The little girl also confided in her teacher that her father also beat up her elder brother, whose age was also put at 13.”
Fortunately, the victims were saved, given medical attention, and taken into their sister’s protective care.
However, the suspect fled his residence before the police could reach him, and they are working to catch him.
It was reported that numerous cases of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse of children have been reported in Nigeria, making child abuse a serious problem.
Children frequently experience violence in their families, schools, and communities, according to several experts.
Social norms usually justify practices like child labour and corporal punishment, which contribute to the cycle of abuse by preventing many incidents from being reported out of fear and shame.
