Hassan Garba, a 20-year-old man, was allegedly murdered by a tea vendor named Abdulrashidu Ya’u in Jigawa after he was accused of stealing bread, milk, noodles and petrol.
According to reports, the suspect who lives in Sararai village, Jigawar Tsada town, in the Dutse Local Government Area committed the crime on August 19, 2024, at around 5:00am.
In a statement on Tuesday, DSP Lawan Adam, the Jigawa State Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the crime.
He said upon receiving the report, a standby patrol team promptly rushed to the scene, apprehended the suspect and conveyed the victim to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital for immediate medical attention.
Unfortunately, he noted that on arrival, “The medical doctor on duty certified the 20-year-man dead. His remains were examined, photographed and later released to his relatives for burial according to Islamic rite.”
During questioning at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Dutse, the suspect acknowledged that the dead had angered him by stealing his goods to the extent that he had told his parents about it, but nothing had been done.
“Upon apprehending the deceased at this point, he made the decision to tie him with a rope and began striking him with a whip in secret”, the PPRO further revealed.
He made note of the fact that although nearby neighbours had heard the deceased’s calls for assistance, they were powerless to save him until police officers arrived.
Adam promised that the suspect would be dutifully arraigned in court and face the full force of the law after the discreet investigation was over.
Similarly, the Police spokesperson said on August 20, 2024, at about 3 pm, one Mamuda Yusuf, ‘m’ of Kadume village, Malam madori LGA reported at Hadejia ‘A’ Division that, on the same date at about 1500hrs his jinchen motorcycle, black in colour, without reg no was stolen at Hadejia General Hospital, noting that on receipt of the report, policemen on patrol were alerted.
He disclosed that on August 21, 2024, at about 7 am, one Aliyu Aliyu ‘m’ age 24yrs of Gagulmari Quarters, Hadejia LGA was arrested and the stolen motorcycle was found in his possession.
“During the interrogation process at the Divisional Crime Branch Hadejia, the suspect admitted to committing the alleged offence.
“The suspect has since been charged to court for prosecution”, he said.
