The Oyo State Government has made it known that the Oyo Mobilisation Agency for Socio-Economic Development will shortly start reorienting youths in state-owned tertiary institutions towards positive values.
The announcement was made on Thursday by Dr. Morohunkola Thomas, the Director-General of OYMASED, while on a working visit to Dr Taiwo Lasisi, the Rector of the Polytechnic of Ibadan.
Dr Thomas outlined the agency’s objective, emphasising the necessity to instil basic principles for the mental growth of the students, saying that they represent the next generation of leaders.
He expressed concern that kids are choosing quick success over hard work these days. He stated that it is important to actively prevent youth from engaging in activities like cultism, thuggery, bullying, substance misuse, and indecent clothing.
“Bullying, thuggery, indecent dressing, illicit drug use, and other vices are on the rise, with youths increasingly seeking rapid wealth rather than embracing the values of tolerance, perseverance, and honesty,” Dr Thomas said.
He complimented the staff of the institution for their quality of service, highlighting the need for teamwork to guarantee that graduates from the institution make valuable contributions to society.
The state governor, Seyi Makinde, was commended for establishing the agency at this critical time, and the agency was assured of the institution’s support by the rector, Dr Lasisi.
