The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Saturday’s election in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, has congratulated the winner, Mr. Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Adelabu, who resigned from the Central Bank of Nigeria as its Deputy Governor in 2018, to contest the governorship election, also thanked the people of the state for their support.
In a statement circulated on social media platforms in the early hours of Monday, Adelabu wrote, “My dear people of Oyo State.
“I am full of gratitude to God and to every single one of you for the journey so far. I offered myself up for service for the good of Oyo State. We ran a campaign that was issues based and was above board all through and I am quite proud of that.
“No life is worth being lost for any reason, I sincerely sympathize with the families of the deceased. May their souls rest in peace.
“While my party is studying the incidents of violence and various reported cases of electoral malpractices to determine further course of action, if necessary, I congratulate Seyi Makinde of PDP.
“Thank you. Bayo Adelabu,” he said.
Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, the returning officer for the poll, had on Sunday evening, declared Makinde, the winner of the election.
Ogundipe, who doubles as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, declared that Makinde of PDP secured a total of 515, 621 votes to defeat APC candidate, Adelabu who scored a total of 357,982 votes.
