Aboki Danjuma, the Commissioner of Police for Imo State, met with representatives of the Abacheke community in the state’s Ohaji Egbema Local Government Area on the Friday killings of five of the community’s youths. Gunmen who operated on motorcycles had invaded the community and opened fire, shooting intermittently.
Four of the community young people lost their lives in the process, while one was hurt and taken to the hospital.
However, the state’s police verified the death of the fifth victim on Monday.
The CP met with community stakeholders on Monday, according to a statement released by the State Police spokesperson, Henry Okoye.
According to Okoye, the purpose of the meeting, which was attended by Goodluck Opiah, the recently appointed Minister of State for Education, was to put an end to community killings.
The statement said, “On Monday, March 11, 2024, the Commissioner of the Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, called a crucial security meeting with the stakeholders of Abacheke in Ohaji/Egbema LGA of Imo State over the recent horrific murder of five residents of Abacheke community by gunmen, in furtherance of his unwavering dedication and community policing-oriented approach to combating crime.
“The former speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly and the recently retired Minister of State Education, Rt. Hon. Bright Nanah Opiah, were present at the crucial meeting, which took place at the house of HRH Eze Ikeji Bright, Eze Osichi Orumara, the traditional ruler of Abacheke Community.
“Enough security measures have been put in place to improve the general safety, security, and well-being of the residents of Ohaji/Egbema LGA and the Abacheke community.”
