According to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Nasarawa, an investigation has been launched to identify the perpetrators of the attack on its headquarters in Lafia.
The NSCDC Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Jerry Victor, stated this in an interview on Tuesday in Lafia.
Previously, in the early hours of June 17, an unknown number of bandits attempted to storm the NSCDC Lafia office, but were driven back by the personnel of the command.
Victor stated that the intelligence team was instructed by Ismaila Abdullahi, the state commandant of the corps, to identify and capture the assailants, accomplices, and sponsors in order to determine the true cause of the attack.
He declared that regardless of their status in the country, the command will pursue the attackers and ensure they faced justice.
Victor stated that the bandits’ intended to release some of their members who were under their custody, this was revealed during the preliminary investigation.
“They came in large numbers with iron rods and attempted to break some part of the command’s fence to gain entry into the facility.
“Our personnel swiftly responded by opening fire on the hoodlums, whose mission was to release some high-profile suspected criminals including informants of kidnappers in our custody,” he stated.
Victor said, in order to prevent similar occurrences in the future, the command had increased surveillance in and around their office.
