The South East Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Alhaji Gidado Sidiq, has denounced reports in some national dailies that there is an impending war between Fulani herdsmen and their host communities in Anambra State describing such report as false and baseless.
Sidiq, who is the leader of the Fulani community in Anambra State, while speaking to journalists, on Sunday, in Awka, noted that herdsmen and their host communities in Anambra State are living in peace and harmony as Governor Willie Obiano has set up a peace and reconciliation committee saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that an enduring peace between herdsmen and their host communities in Anambra State is sustained and preserved.
Sidiq advised reporters to always verify their report very well before publishing. He stressed that some unverified negative reports could lead to anarchy and unwarranted loss of lives in the state.
The Fulani leader in Anambra State also commended Governor Willie Obiano and the people of the state for their hospitality towards residents, including the Fulani in the state and assured that they would always respect the customs and traditions of Anambra people.
Sidiq equally promised that the Union would always report any bad egg found wanting among the herdsmen to the appropriate authority for him to serve as a deterrent to others.
Describing Anambra as the most peaceful state in Nigeria, he said the method adopted by Governor Obiano in addressing the relationship with the cattle breeders and the host communities has produced tremendous positive result because both parties have always maintained their separate commitments expected of them for peace to reign.
