Award-winning author Chimamanda Adichie has come under Nigerian public scrutiny in recent times not for her books but for her views on feminism.
The author who was a guest on “The Daily Show” hosted by Trevor Noah show expressed her thoughts on certain issues including being a feminist and feminine, Hillary Clinton’s bio and her book, “Dear Ijeawele, or a Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions”. However, what attracted Nigerian’s attention was her view on chivalry. She told Noah.
I think just like holding the door shouldn’t be gender because we should open the door for every one. I hold the door for men and women. I think the idea of sort of holding the door for a woman because she is a woman, I have trouble with, I’m quite happy for people to hold the door for me i hope they are not doing for the sort of idea of chivalry because chivalry is the idea of women are somehow weak and need protecting but we know that there many women who are stronger than men”
This statement has generated rather interesting opinions on the topic:
Chimamanda is the Queen of starting conversations that challenge societal norms. Arouses your mind to reconsider the things you were born to uphold without question.

Why are a lot of Nigerian men always critical of Chimamanda? I don’t agree with all her views, but just let her be. Offer your own opinions and let individuals decide what they want to do. Chimamanda deserves more respect.

Love how Chimamanda triggers all of these conversations whenever she interviews.

All Chimamanda is saying is: Hold or open doors because you want to, because it makes you feel good. Not because you’re opening it for a woman, and just because she’s a woman, you need to open the door for her.
Is that so difficult to understand?

I really want to know what Chimamanda thinks about women who take maternity leaves

In order to disagree with Chimamanda’s opinion, you have to disagree with what she’s actually saying, not what you think she’s meant based on ur comprehension skills. Ask someone what it means if you’re not sure, don’t be joining band wagon up and down

Chimamanda.
Until she changes her name to ‘ChimaWomanda’ before I take her serious.

Some of you need to put your hand on your copy of Half of a Yellow Sun, take a deep breath and say ‘Chimamanda can be wrong.’
It’s not a sacrilege.
It won’t prevent Kainene from coming back.

It only takes an open-minded person to understand chimamanda and that woman is anything but definitely not insecure ?.
