A man in Ikang, Cross River State’s Bakassi Local Government Area, is accused of killing a two-year-old boy entrusted to his care and harvested his internal organs.
Eyewitnesses claim that the suspect is a neighbour to the mother of the murdered baby.
Local resident Emem stated: “On market days, Mondays and Fridays, the boy’s mother typically drops her son off at her neighbor’s laundry shop so she can go to the market for business.
“She went to pick up her son last Friday after returning from the market, but she couldn’t find him.” Nobody seemed to respond when she asked around. After going to the laundry shop and scattering the heap of clothes, she discovered her kid dead and covered in blood. Other neighbors heard her shouts and hurried over to the store.
Another witness, who wishes to remain anonymous, stated, “There was a knife next to the pile of clothes and it looked like what was used to kill the child because it had blood stains on it.”
According to her, a large search was conducted for the suspect after the severed body and knife were discovered in the shop. The suspect was apprehended while trying to flee to an unidentified location.
“After being beaten for several hours, the suspect remained silent. Afterwards, the police took custody of him and promised a thorough investigation.
