Tolu Falansa, 27, was found dead in his flat after a fire broke out in the Owode-Yewa neighbourhood in the Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State around midnight.
The incident happened at around 5:00 am on July 28, 2024, according to a police source who was familiar with the details and who spoke on Saturday but asked to remain anonymous because they lacked the right to speak for the command.
Falansa, who supposedly kept his motorcycle in his room where he slept, was found dead next to the machine in a smoke-filled room.
A resident, identified as Kafaya, informed the authorities that they were unaware of the incident until several individuals came looking for the deceased.
“We didn’t think something of that nature had happened until two boys came to look for Falansa. I pointed his apartment to them when they asked where he was,” Kafaya said.
Kafaya was in shock when the people went back to tell her that Falansa had died from smoke inhalation in his flat.
According to Odutola Omolola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, the body has been taken to the Ilaro mortuary.
Odutola said, “The incident was reported to the Owode-Yewa Police Division at about 7 a.m. on July 28, 2024, by one of the neighbours. When our men went to the scene, the motorcycle he kept in his room had burnt while his lifeless body was lying inside the same.”
