A septuagenarian, Adekunle Akinsemoyin, has been jailed for demolishing the toilet and removing the roof of his tenants’ rooms.
It was learnt that on June14, 2015, around 6am, Akinsemoyin illegally removed the roofing sheet covering the rooms of his tenants, Wasiu Ramon and Fatai Andoyin, and demolished their toilet.
Akinsemoyin and one Musa Kalamu were arrested and subsequently arraigned on July 7, 2015, before Igbosere Magistrates’ Court on three counts of conspiracy, malicious damage, breach of public peace and unlawful demolition.
They pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The offence committed was said to be punishable under sections 409, 166 (d), 338, Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.
On Tuesday, the presiding magistrate, A.T. Omoleye, sentenced Akinsemoyin to a total of 10 months’ imprisonment with an option of N90,000 fine.
Akinsemoyin was convicted after he was found guilty of malicious damage and breach of the peace.
Kalamu, a farmer, was however discharged and acquitted due to lack of evidence linking him to the alleged crime.
The magistrate, Omoyele had found Akinsemoyin guilty of conspiracy, malicious damage, breach of public peace and sentenced him to three months’ imprisonment with an option of N50,000 fine.
Likewise, she found him guilty of removing the roofing sheets covering the tenants’ rooms and sentenced him to one month’s imprisonment with an option of N15,000.
Omoyele further sentenced him to six months’ imprisonment with an option of N25,000 fine, for unlawfully demolishing the toilet of the tenants.
