Tony Aziegbemi, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Edo State, was kidnapped but has been freed.
After roughly 11 days in captivity, Aziegbemi was said to have arrived at his home around 3:00am in the morning on Tuesday.
Around 6:17 a.m., Senator Odion Ugbesia announced his release; however, it remained unclear if a ransom had been paid prior to his release.
On March 15, at approximately 11 p.m., Aziegbemi was abducted by gunmen near his home on Idaro Street, off Country Home Road, in Benin, Edo State.
Aziegbemi was allegedly abducted while leaving a meeting at the Government House and heading home when he was diverted and taken captive in front of his driver, who was trying to get over a speed breaker.
His family was contacted on Friday by the kidnappers, who demanded a ransom of N500 million in order to free him, a family source made it known on Sunday.
He claimed that the kidnappers did not mistreat him and that this kidnapping was part of “the terrain.”
“It feels good to be back home,” he remarked. I appreciate your call and your concern. I’m glad to be back with my family. “Although my kidnappers did not mistreat me, I am glad to be back home nonetheless.”
