In an effort to lessen the suffering of the majority of Nigerians, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has pleaded with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently consider reopening the nation’s borders to food imports.
Sunusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the governor’s spokeswoman, made the request in a statement shortly after meeting Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the comptroller general of the Nigerian Customs Service, at Government House in Kano.
Governor Yusuf condemned the dire state of hunger in the nation, which was brought on by an abrupt rise in commodity prices.
“We appreciate the President’s intervention regarding the ongoing national food initiative. He believes that Kano is the ideal location for the initiative to be launched and that, if successful, the program will mitigate the effects of food scarcity.”
The Governor said the Federal Government should think about reopening the borders and permitting unfettered importation of goods as another quick measure to help our united populace have access to affordable and readily available food.
