The Nigerian film industry is in grief once more following the death of veteran actor Amaechi Muonagor, three weeks after losing one of its comedy performers to the chilly grip of death.
After a protracted battle with kidney disease, Muonagor passed away yesterday.
This occurred a few days after he requested financial support from Nigerians in a widely shared video in order to travel overseas for a kidney transplant.
Popular actor and film director Ugeze J. Ugeze confirmed the tragic news yesterday, saying the late actor had recently been discharged from the hospital while he waited to secure funding for more treatment overseas.
He characterized the deceased as a passionate actor who was constantly prepared to receive direction on the set.
“Muonagor did his utmost. I had directed him on a few occasions. God is the wisest, according to Ugeze.
Morris Monye, the chairman of the Delta State Sports Association and a well-known social media influencer, confirmed the news by posting on his official X account, which was formerly Twitter, that renowned Nigerian actor Amaechi Muonagor had passed away.
He expressed his profound sadness over the actor’s passing.
“Heartbroken beyond measure to hear of Amaechi Muonagor’s demise. He was a gifted Nollywood actor who had an absolutely magnificent presence on our screens.
“We were worried about him as he struggled with health problems and did everything we could to support him in getting treatment in India.
He wrote, “This terrible loss emphasizes the need for better healthcare in our nation.”
A week ago, the 62-Years-old Nollywood star pleaded with Nigerians for financial support for his kidney transplant in a distressing video.
Tony “Oneweek” Muonagor, the actor’s relative, revealed that he was suffering from kidney disease on November 27, 2023.
Muonagor has starred in numerous films over his career, including one of his most well-known parts, Aki and Paw Paw, in which he played the father of two boisterous, mischievous teenagers.
Amaechi was born in Obosi, a village in Idemili North. Prior to continuing his education at the university of Nigeria, Nsukka(UNN), where he studied economics and graduated in 1987, he attended St. Mary’s Primary school, Obosi and Oraifite Grammer School.
Following his youth service, Amaechi began employment with NAN (News Agency of Nigeria) in 1989.
A few years later, he quit his work to play an acting role of Akunatakasi in the Nigerian film Taboo 1.
