A man identified as Olubunmi Johnson has been taken into custody by the Ogun State Police Command for reportedly setting his wife Kikelomo on fire at their flat on Fagbuyi Street, Ilogbo, in the Ota neighbourhood of Ogun State.
An eyewitness reported that the incident happened after a domestic argument around 8:30 p.m. on Friday.
Omolola Odutola, the state police command spokesperson, made it known that Johnson has been arrested in connection with the crime, even if the specific circumstances leading up to the altercation are still unknown at the time of this report.
According to information obtained, the victim’s family notified the police about what is currently being investigated as an attempted murder after a neighbour who saw the occurrence contacted them.
Odutola stated that the 55-year-old suspect was arrested due to the prompt action by Ilogbo Division police personnel.
“The husband doused his wife’s body with petrol and set her on fire with a match. Witnesses to the incident immediately rushed her to the hospital.
“Upon receiving the report, our detectives quickly took action and arrested the husband, who has since been detained.”
