Yesterday, a portion of the well-known Wuse Market in Abuja was set ablaze in retaliation for the alleged death of a criminal suspect by a security guard.
Due to conflicting reports regarding the identity of the involved officer, it was not possible to determine at the time of publication whether the officer was a police officer or a prison officer.
Hoodlums along with some displeased traders were said to be upset that the culprit was shot dead after attempting to flee from custody despite having been found guilty by a Mobile court.
The incident was confirmed by a senior official of Abuja Markets Management Limited (AMML), who requested to be anonymous. The official also mentioned that the agency’s office was affected.
He stated that the suspect had already been found guilty of an unnamed offense and that when the accused criminal tried to flee while being taken away, he was shot.
Although the exact amount of damage was unknown at the time of publication, It was learnt that multiple ships and cars had been set on fire.
While police officers roped off the area, firefighters were at the scene, according to AMML spokesman Innocent Amaechina, who was unable to provide any other information at this time.
