A section of the multimillion-naira building owned by former Kano State governor Malam Ibrahim Shekarau was destroyed by fire on Sunday night in Kano.
Halima Shekarau, his third wife, was mostly impacted by the fire in her flat.
The source of the fire, which was thought to have started in the home’s kitchen, could not be quickly determined.
Dr. Sule Ya’u Sule, the media adviser to Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, confirmed the incident to reporters, saying that the fire began on Sunday night in the mansion’s inner kitchen, which is located on the ground level.
“We thank God the fire only affected one of Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau’s living rooms, and already men of the State Fire Service had successfully put out the fire,” he said.
When called, Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi, the State Fire Service’s spokesperson, confirmed the occurrence.
However, he disclosed that he would not comment on the cause of the fire for now, as they are still managing the situation.
“We are still at the house, and you know I cannot comment on anything now because we are still trying to make sure that the fire didn’t spread to other places,” he added.
