The Ekiti State chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Jide Awe, has said what transpired between the governor and the Police during a campaign rally of the People’s Democratic Party could be described as the “comedy of the year.”
Governor Ayo Fayose, on Wednesday, said he was brutalised by policemen who allegedly stormed the main entrance to the Ekiti State Government House to stop a rally by the Peoples Democratic Party.
Residents said gunshots were fired at the main entrance to the Government House, while tear gas canisters were reportedly shot to disperse the crowd at the rally.
However, Awe said, “It is entirely a security matter. The governor is the Chief Security Officer and should know how to conduct himself properly in the public.
“Probably it was part of the instruction given to the Police as the chief security officer that led to the situation.”
A tweeter user who goes by the name, Red Harpoon, @redhapoon, who also thinks the actions of the governor were overly dramatised, described the incident as an ongoing ‘Nollywood audition.’
Another tweeter user, Japhet Omojuwa, @omojuwa, in a tweet said, “There is nothing happening in Ekiti except for those who are either fooled by Fayose or those who are desperate to see something where nothing exists.”
