The Youth wing of the Southern Kaduna People’s Union (SOKAPU) has described the recent invitation extended to Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, by the Department of State Service (DSS) for questioning as a plot to silence him over his comments in recent times.
SOKAPU National Youth Leader, Isaac John Sirjay, alleged, at the weekend, that the invitation might be a ploy to kill the outspoken Catholic bishop.
To this end, the youth advised Kukah not to honour the purported invitation, saying that some Nigerians have fallen victim of such invitation.
A statement issued by the SOKAPU National Youth leader, Issac John Sirjay, pointed to the case of late former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr Obadiah Mailafia.
It observed how the operations in recent times extended invitations to some people who had at one time or the other accepted invitations, particularly persons considered to be critical of the nepotistic and clandestine leadership style of the Buhari administration.
“Lately, we mourned the sudden demise of Dr Obadiah Mailafia of blessed memory who until his death was a dogged critic of this administration and a regular visitor at one of the DSS facilities.
Meanwhile, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has asked the DSS to stop the harassment of Christian clerics and to adhere strictly to their duty, which is to prevent terrorists from succeeding in the large-scale carnage and violence against the citizenry.
It also condemned the agency for looking away from Islamic clerics, who made provocative statements and openly threatened Christians, citing Shiekh Ahmad Gumi, who reportedly incited terrorists against Christian Soldiers.
In a statement issued yesterday in Abuja, the National Coordinator of HURIWA, Emmanuel Onwubiko, and the National Director of Media Zainab Yusuf, urged the DSS to be patriotic and to stop using its office to intimidate and harass Christians.
