The vice-chancellor of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi, Sani Kunya, has distanced himself from a phoney social media account bearing his name.
Zailani Bappa, the director of the university’s directorate of information and public relations, stated this in a press statement on Monday.
The statement reads “The attention of the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Sani Usman Kunya, is drawn by a good Samaritan, to a fake Facebook account opened in his name, obviously with the sole intent to scam innocent persons.
“A screenshot of a transaction with the good Samaritan revealed a direct attempt to lure the person into surrendering a handsome amount of money to facilitate a supposed contract award.
“Given this, it has become necessary to alert the general public, especially our stakeholders, that the Acting Vice Chancellor will never engage in any official transaction with anyone on social media, nor demand any financial favour for any purpose whatsoever.”
Zailani stated that the Acting Vice-Chancellor does not have a Facebook account and has directed no one to handle any social media account on his behalf.
