Isyaku Babale, 30, of Anguwan Dawaki in Bauchi Metropolis, has been taken into custody by Bauchi State Police Command on suspicion of fatally stabbing his brother.
In a statement released in Bauchi on Sunday, SP Ahmed Wakil, the command’s spokesperson, disclosed this.
He stated that the culprit was taken into custody after the Township Police Station, Bauchi, Divisional Police Officer received a report, and detectives from the division were dispatched to the location right away.
“They took the victim to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital right away, but a doctor declared him dead.
The detectives were spurred by this occurrence to launch a manhunt for the suspect, who was eventually captured close to the Kasuwan Shanu neighborhood of Bauchi State.
“The suspect used a knife and attacked his elder brother on March 31, 2024, at approximately 0400hrs, following a disagreement between them,” the detective stated in the preliminary inquiry conducted.
According to Wakil, the dispute began when the younger brother (suspect) begged his elder brother (victim) to stop consuming cold patch liquid popurlarly known as “sholi” in their room due to the foul odour of the liquid.
“They both got upset with one another and started fighting. The victim was stabbed in the stomach by the suspect shortly after he ran and grabbed a sharp item, possibly a knife.
“Additional investigations revealed that both men were constantly fighting with lethal weapons,” he stated.
According to Wakil, the state’s commissioner of police, Auwal Musa, has directed a discreet investigation into the occurrence in order to gain insight into the suspect’s motivations before moving on with charges.
