Babayaro open ups on Joseph Yobo’s appointment as an assistant Eagles coach

Ex Chelsea defender Celestine Babayaro has expressed his opinion on the recent appointment of Nigerian legend Joseph Yobo as an assistant coach to Super Eagles gaffer Gernot Rohr.

Recently, the NFF announced the appointment of ex Everton defender Joseph Yobo as assistant coach in the Super Eagles as replacement for Imama Amakapabo.

However, Joseph Yobo’s appointment came as a surprise to many Nigerian football followers and pundits with some asking for rationale that made NFF hire the ex Super Eagles captain.

Celestine Babayaro who played with Joseph Yobo in the Super Eagles has now stated that the appointment of his ex teammate was a good one, but done in a wrong way.

The 41-year-old explained that he is not sure if Joseph Yobo has gotten needed and required credentials before he was named Super Eagles assistant coach.

Before retiring from football, Joseph Yobo played 101 games for the Super Eagles and featured in three FIFA World Cup tournaments and also six African Nations Cup.

Joseph Yobo was the captain of the Super Eagles when Nigeria won the African Cup of Nations in South Africa.

Meanwhile, Nigeria are preparing for the next game against Sierra Leone in 2021 African Nations Cup qualifying game.
