The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has urged Nigerians not to expect regular electricity supply but gradual, steady, accelerated and sustainable improvement in power service provision.
Chief Adelabu gave the assurance when he visited Governor Seyi Makinde’s office, while inspecting federal electricity power plants in Oyo State.
While pledging federal government support to Electricity Distribution Companies support (DisCo) in playing its roles, said communities purchasing electricity distribution infrastructures would become things of the past.
Responding, Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, expressed the state government readiness to combine forces with the federal government in the provision of stable, reliable and functional electricity to the people.
Governor therefore described the electricity act 2023 as the game changer that his administration would leverage on to bolster power distribution within Oyo State.
Speaking further, Adelabu chided DisCos for not living up to expectations in distribution but assured that government will intervene in areas not attractive for investment by DisCos.
He advised Nigerians to report any strange movement around all power infrastructure in the country to security agencies to reduce the increasing rate of vandalisation and destruction of critical power infrastructure in some parts of the country.
While addressing staff and management of Transmission Company of Nigeria sub-station, he decried the rate of vandalisation and destruction of critical power in some parts of the country.
