President Bola Tinubu says the country must make difficult changes to be respected in the comity of nations.
Tinubu spoke in Abuja while declaring open the 2023 Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA.
According to him, even though initial reforms may be painful, Nigeria must be willing to take the hard steps to set the country on the path of growth.
“To build a great nation, we must make bold decisions; even though it may be painful at the moment, it is not about you and me. It is about our generation yet unborn.”
Tinubu, who said there is hope for a great Nigeria, called for the cooperation and support of the private sector.
In the same vein, Senior Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale says President Bola Tinubu had set clear goals for each sector and will not tolerate failure from his recently inaugurated ministers.
While fielding questions from newsmen today, the Presidential spokesperson assured that the President as he did during his time as Lagos State governor will not be afraid to fire anyone who is not performing as expected.
Ngelale further disclosed that during the interim period between when he emerged as President-elect and his inauguration on May 29, Tinubu proactively established a series of reform committees encompassing every sector.
He said, “(Tinubu) basically looked at exactly what His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari had achieved and said, ‘This is what we want to do to build on all these achievements.”
“We are going to effectively implement a plan within a certain amount of time based on time-based benchmarks that when a minister has come in, we will be able to measure their performance against.
“Every minister coming in absolutely knows what they have to achieve within the time frame that has been given to them by the President and that’s something in the history of Nigerian governance we’ve never seen before.”
