Suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, was granted bail by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Tuesday.
Justice Nicholas Oweibo in his ruling granted the bail in the sum of 20 million with one surety in the like sum.
The bail followed a two-count charge of illegal possession of firearm brought against him by the Department of State Services, DSS.
Emefiele’s lawyer, Mr. Joseph Daudu, SAN, had applied for his bail after his client pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.
Daudu contended that the offence for which Emefiele was changed is bailable.
Emefiele was brought to court at 9.23a.m. in a white Hillux pick-up van, with the number plates covered.
On arrival at the court, Emefiele stepped down from the van assisted by a female, whose identity could not be confirmed at press time.
He was then taken to the courtroom of Justice Nicolas Oweibo, trial judge in the matter.
The Judge rejected the Federal Government’s claim that Emefiele was a flight risk. The judge ruled that the government failed to provide any fact to support its claim.
