The Amotekun corps in Ogun state have arrested for suspects for the murder of a herder.
According to reports, the herder identified as Umaru Aliu was shot to death and his body dismembered in Ijagure village along Sagada, Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State
The Corps Commander, David Akinremi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying, two were arrested by his operatives in the state while two others were arrested by men of Oyo State Police Command.
Akinremi explained that seven suspects were involved in the dastardly act which occurred on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at 6:pm.
He said that nemesis however caught up with the suspects as they were arrested
on Tuesday, for murder and conspiracy.
According to Akinremi, the suspects, Akinyele Adebayo, 49, and Idosu Gbalo, 30, were arrested for the murder of a herder, Umaru Aliu, at Ijagure village along Sagada, Imeko-Afon Local Government of Ogun State.
He added “the crime was perpetrated on Sunday 30th April 2023, at about 1800 hours. While the deceased and one Umaru Takake were grazing their cattle in the bush near the aforementioned village, information has it that one Fagbemi Kareem is now at large armed with a locally made single-barrel gun.
“Fagbemi Kareem was accompanied by Olorunto Segun, Baba Shele, Lana Ojugbele, and Ashipa, trailed the herders and caught up with Umaru Aliu and allegedly shot him on a farmland belonging to one Chief Ogunlana Fagbemi, Alias “Osewuya” at Ijagure village, while Umaru Takake narrowly escaped unhurt.
“On the same day at about 7: pm, the duo of Olorunto Segun and Baba Shele allegedly contacted one Akinyele Adebayo to assist to dismember the corpse at the scene of the crime and he obliged in the presence of other cohorts
” While Baba Shele took away the head of the deceased to an unknown destination.
“Thereafter, the remaining parts of the dismembered body were packed in a sack and buried in a pit near Oyan River at Oke-Ayo village in Imeko.”
“In furtherance, the arrested suspects took the operatives to the crime scene after admitting their roles in the dastardly act.
Amotekun Corps, however, said that the prime suspects; Kareem and Baba Shele have been reportedly arrested by the Ojio Police Division, Oyo State for the offense.
Akinremi added that three other accomplices; Lana Ojugbele, Olorunto Segun, and Ashipa were still at large.
He disclosed that the suspects Akinyele Adebayo and Idosu Gbalo are being transferred to Ogun State Police Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta for further action and prosecution.
