The Ogun State Police command says it is not aware of any shooting at the venue of a meeting between Muhammad Indabawa-led All Progressives Congress electoral Committee panel and the governorship aspirants of the party in the state on Monday night.
The governorship aspirants are – Abdulkabir Adekunle Akinlade(Ogun West), Senator Adegbenga Kaka (Ogun East), Otunba Bimbo Ashiru(Ogun East), Prince Dapo Abiodun(Ogun East), Jimi Lawal(Ogun East) and Abayomi Hunye (Ogun West),
Suspected thugs had invaded the MITROS Suites, Ibara GRA, the venue of the meeting forcing political leaders and journalists who were there to run for dear lives.
The shooting which began around 10.40pm, lasted for about 15 minutes, throwing the venue into confusion.
Thugs suspected to be supporters of two major contenders of the APC governorship ticket in the state engaged each other.
The eight-man electoral committee members hurriedly called off the meeting, when the venue was turning into a war zone.
However, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the command has not got any report of any shootout between any group in the state.
He said, “We are not aware of any shootout at any political meeting, no one has reported any shooting incident to us.”
The governorship primary early scheduled to hold across the 236 wards in the state last Sunday had suffered a series of postponements due to logistics issues.
The committee members who had arrived the state 7:45 pm on Monday for a meeting with the aspirants, could not start until about 10:30pm and abruptly ended 15 minutes later following the security breach at the venue.
