Former Super Eagles captain Austin Okocha has urged the team to put up their best performances at the Russia 2018 World Cup.
The Eagles are in Group D along with Argentina, Iceland and Croatia. They play Croatia in their first match on June 16.
Nigeria lost their last friendly match 1-0 to Czech Republic in Austria on Wednesday, and Okocha believes the team can still make an impact in Russia.
With the Eagles currently in Austria preparing for the tournament after their friendly matches, Okocha, who represented Nigeria at the 1994, 1998 and 2002 World Cups, told Brila FM on Thursday that the team should perform well in Russia.
He said, “Experience is the best teacher and I believe that we should not expect too much from the team in Russia. We should set a realistic target for them to first qualify from the group. They can then take it on from there.
“Most of them are going there for the first time; they should enjoy the moment and put up their best performance. It is possible that they may not have the opportunity to play at the World Cup again after this, so they should try to make a good use of it.”
